15 Jul 2010 Danish Open cancelled

The Danish Open, a new tour destination on the CCT calendar, was scheduled to be held at the end of January 2011. Unfortunately, for various reasons, this event cannot be held during this upcoming CCT season and thus has been cancelled.

CCT hopes to have the Danish Open back on the schedule for 2011/2012 and is working hard at getting new, good quality, and exciting curling events added to the Tour schedule.

CCT will keep you posted

31 Jan 2010 Czech triumph at the Danish Open – Team Ulsrud new CCT Champion

CCT - Team Jiri Snitil/ CZE (Photo courtesy of Urs Räber)The Prague foursome, skipped by Jiri Snitil, was walking over in Copenhagen and became undefeated winner of the "2010 Danish Open".

Stealing 7 in the 6th end of the Sunday afternoon final against Team Due from Norway (final score 10:3), the Czech Team impressively demonstrated its outstanding performance throughout the last CCT event of the season. Facing the German Team of Felix Schulze in Semi Final before, the Czech just once came close to loose as the German Skip needed an 8-foot Draw to win the game but has been too long.

In the Quarter Final on Saturday evening Team Snitil outcurled the Danish Olympic Team, skipped by Ulrik Schmidt, 7:4. Meanwhile Skip Andy Kapp of the German Olympic Squad lost his last shot to tie for an extra end by a pick against old hand and 2006 Olympic Silver Medallist Markku Uusipaavalniemi from Finland. The Fins later on lost their Semi Final to Team Due. The other Qualifiers have been Team Stjerne/ DEN and Team Løvold/ NOR.

Not competing in Copenhagen, but recreating from their recent success at the Grand Slam in Canada (3rd place), the old and new CURLING CHAMPIONS TOUR champions from Norway Havard Vad Petersson, Christoffer Svae, Torger Nergård and Thomas Ulsrud with a total purse of CAD 85’424 have been unreachable for every other team of the Tour before this last event. The Norwegians have been playing an outstanding season and are most likely one of the favourites playing in Vancouver.

26 Jan 2010 Ulsrud and Murdoch set the tone in Canada

As the only European participant at the "BDO Classic Canadian Open" Grand Slam in Winnipeg/ Manitoba Thomas Ulsrud and his Norwegian team made it into the Semi Final by beating Edmonton’s Randy Ferbey foursome in the quarters 6-5. Then losing out eventually in the semi’s to Canada’s Olympic representative Kevin Martin 3-6.

With David Murdoch’s win at the "Casino Rama Skins" last weekend in Rama/ Ontario and Thomas Ulsrud’s top four finish this weekend, the Europeans have set the tone for the upcoming Olympics only 3 weeks away.

With the upcoming "2010 Danish Open", starting this Friday in Copenhagen, the CURLING CHAMPIONS TOUR will feature the last competition before the European teams head out for Vancouver.

17 Jan 2010 Team Ott wins in Glasgow – Team Muirhead new CCT Champion

CCT- 2010 Glynhill Ladies Int. Winner Team Ott/ SUI (Photo courtesy of Bob Cowan)The Swiss Olympic Team, skipped by 2006 Silver Medallist Miriam Ott, won the last CCT event on the WOMEN’s Tour. Janine Greiner, Carmen Küng, Carmen Schäfer and Miriam Ott were dominating the 2nd half of the “Glynhill Ladies International” Final against Team Muirhead.

Although the British Olympic Squad took a 3:1 lead after stealing 2 in the 3rd end, it didn’t manage to score any other end till the end of the game. The final score has been 6:3 for Team Switzerland. So the Swiss put somehow an exclamation mark behind their ambitions to win another Olympic medal within shortly.

Nevertheless the runner up position in Glasgow has been enough for Karen Addison, Lorna Vevers, Kelly Wood, Jackie Lockart and Eve Muirhead to defend their leading position at the all over CCT ranking. After 5 top 5 positions on the Tour (both CCT and WCT) and one CCT event win (ZO Women’s Tournament) the Scottish Ladies in the British jerseys win the first edition of the CURLING CHAMPIONS TOUR and are going to be one of the teams to count with in Vancouver.

Team Schöpp/ GER stayed on the 2nd place whereas Team Privivkova/ RUS finished on 3rd place. 2006 Olympic Gold Medallist Team Norberg from Sweden became 4th.

Beside the two finalists there has been 5 other Olympic teams qualifying for the Sunday Play Offs. The U.S. Olympic Team lost its Quarter Final to Team Ostlund/ SWE. Meanwhile Team Japan lost to Team China. Both Team Denmark and Team Russia were stopped in the Quarter Finals as well. Later on the Chinese Olympic Squad were defeated by Team Ott in the Semi Final.

11 Jan 2010 Team Brewster new Master of Perth

Nobody could stop Tom Brewster and his teammates from Aberdeen. They were running undefeated and straight on into the final of the "Ramada Perth Masters".

It appeared they needed to prevent that after the European Championships in Aberdeen in December the Swedes take back home another Trophy from mother country of curling. Team Brewster defeats Team Edin 5:3 in the Sunday afternoon Final. Before that Brewster & Co won against the Chinese Olympic squad (Skip Liu) in the Quarter and Team Dunn/ SCO in the Semi Final.

Even though the young Swedish Olympic Team in turn showed that it is one of the teams to count with at the Olympics in Vancouver. By placing 2nd in Perth, the youngsters of Karlstad are backing up their 2nd position in the CCT ranking. Meanwhile Team Ulsrud will keep its Tour lead, out of reach for anybody, although the Norwegians were stopped in the Quarter Final another time by their Scandinavian neighbors.

10 Jan 2010 Team Jones defeats Japanese Olympic Team

Although the 2008 World Champions from Winnipeg/ CAN, skipped by Jennifer Jones, had lost its kick off game to Swiss Junior Team Dünki, they were always in control in the Bernese Ladies Cup Final.

Facing 3 Canadian stones in the first end, Japanese Skip Moe Meguro needed a hit and stay with her last rock, but just rolled over too far. So Team Jones had a perfect start with a steal of 2. By just scoring one in the 2nd end, Team Meguro stayed behind their opponents until the end of the game. Another 2 of the Winnipeg foursome in the 3rd end has already been the preliminary decision. Afterwards the Japanese Olympians could not force them to make any big mistakes. Even a steal of one in the last end could not tie the game (Final score: 5:4).

In the Semi Final Team Jones defeated the Great Britain Olympic Team, skipped by Eve Muirhead, with 3:0. This has been a nice “revenge”, at the right time, after loosing the B-Final for qualifying directly to the Brits.

By winning the "bronze game" to surprising Team Greiner/ AUT, Team Muirhead anyway took over the CCT lead from Team Schöpp/ GER. However the recent European Champion had a hard time in Berne and met defending World Champion Team Wang/ CHN and 2006 Olympic Champion Team Norberg soon down in the “Consolation Cup”.

07 Jan 2010 Bernese Ladies Cup will feature all Olympic Women teams

CCT - Int. Bernese Ladies Cup: Team Wang/ CHN (Photo courtesy of OC Bernese Ladies Cup)Featuring all Olympic teams, the Bernese Ladies Cup will be a kind of “sneak preview” of the Vancouver Women Curling Competition. All 10 teams of Vancouver will start in Berne, too.

The international field of 32 teams is lead by CCT leader and recent European Champion Team Schöpp from Germany, together with defending World Champion Team Wang from China and the 2006 Torino Gold Medalist Team Norberg from Sweden.

But in order to win the Cup in Berne there are a couple of other top performers to beat first, such as the Canadian (Skip Bernard) and the U.S. Olympic (Skip McCormick) teams. Tour runner up and Great Britain’s hope for an Olympic medal Team Muirhead might have the same good chances as former World Champion Team Jones from Canada to play for the Cup.

The CURLING CHAMPIONS TOUR is pleased to announce that Curling Fans are able to follow the action on the Bernese Ice live on laola1.tv starting from Friday 10:30.

07 Jan 2010 Ramada Perth Masters paves the road to Vancouver

CCT - Ramada Perth Masters 2009: Team Morozumi/ JPN (Photo courtesy of OC Perth Masters)Just 36 days to go until the XXI. Olympic Winter Games will start in Vancouver and 40 days until the first stones will be played there at the Olympic Curling Competitions. Till then the most Olympic squads will focus on their season’s peak and prepare most efficiently while competing at one or the other left over CCT Events of the running season. So the New CCT Year will feature the 34th edition of the “Ramada Perth Masters” in Perth/ Scotland this weekend.

The three medalists from the recent European Curling Championships in Aberdeen (Team Edin/ SWE, Team Stöckli/ SUI and Team Ulsrud/ NOR) will be in action, along with the Danish, Japanese and Chinese Olympic squads. Together with the already named nations the international field of 32 teams is completed by teams of Czech Republic, Hungary, Germany and 16 teams from Scotland.

The bronze medalist and Tour leader Team Ulsrud will be the big favourite in the absence of David Murdoch's GB Olympic team, who has prior commitments at WCT events in Canada. But both finalists of the Europeans, Tour runner up and new European Champion Team Edin and 3rd placed Team Stöckli are those to be beaten to become the new Master. Beside there are a few well experienced and high decorated Scottish teams such as Team Warwick Smith, Team Peter Loudon and Team Hammy McMillan or Team Tom Brewster, Semi Finalist of the last CCT event in Edinburgh, to count with. Furthermore there is a big question mark above Team China. The Chinese Olympic squad might be one of the big surprises, even in Vancouver.

The teams have to play a Triple Knock Out first to qualify for the Play Off Games on Sunday, starting at 9:00 (GMT). The Final will take place on Sunday afternoon at 15:00 (GMT).
